Punjab and Haryana High Court records efforts to uproot cannabis plants growing across towns in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh
In an interim order of 2 September 2024 in two public interest petitions begun by the court on its own motion, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recorded an affidavit from the Executive Engineer (Horticulture) of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The affidavit stated that efforts had been taken to cut, uproot or destroy cannabis plants that were growing "all over the towns" of Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal directed counsel for the respondents to file status reports of experts on whether the problem has a permanent solution, and listed the case for 15 October 2024.
