Cracking down on marijuana plantations a "tough task" for authorities in Takeo

Takeo provincial authorities described the ongoing challenge of eradicating cannabis cultivation in Kirivong district, where growers have shifted to planting and tending crops at night. Brigadier General Seng Moha, Provincial Military Police Chief, said spot checks are conducted once or twice monthly on the mountains, and authorities aim to destroy crops before harvest. He noted fewer tip-offs from residents but confirmed plantations persist. Provincial Police Chief Major General Chheang Phannara reported that since 2018, authorities destroyed 145 marijuana plantations and arrested 44 people. Provincial Governor Ouch Phea confirmed growers continue planting at night and watering crops, but authorities burn them before harvest.
