Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment documents 1980–1991 cannabis cultivation history in Koh Kong coastal communities

An IUCN vulnerability and capacity assessment of Koh Kong and Kampot provinces found cannabis in the histories of two island villages of Kaoh Kapi commune, Koh Kong. At Koh Kapik, cannabis "was widely grown from 1980 to 1985"; in the 1990s there was a crackdown on it. At Koh Sralao, people from other provinces who had moved there for their safety cut mountain forest from 1980 to plant "Indian Hemp (Cannabis indica)" and to sell timber. The cutting stopped in 1991, when a ban on the plant was introduced and the area was declared protected by the Ministry of Environment.
