About a hundred police officers cut down more than ten hectares of cannabis on Anlong Chen island in Kandal
Associated Press Television reported that boatloads of armed police crossed without warning to Anlong Chen island, about 20 km south of Phnom Penh, where about a hundred officers cut down more than ten hectares of cannabis. The agency described the island as one of four in Kandal province with substantial plantations, and said farmers could get about two US dollars a kilogram for the crop. General Yeng Mardi, deputy director general of police, said the police had acted together with the local authorities. The report said the farmers put up no resistance, and showed one of them, Chan Sy, protesting the loss of the crop.
