Nazarov 14088 is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered on the rocks of Lake Nozhiy, written Ножёй on the label, in the Aga steppe, in today's Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia, on 31 July 1931 by M. I. Nazarov, who found it in abundance, judged it quite wild and determined it as Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. The Moscow University Herbarium holds two sheets of the gathering, MW0062821[1] and MW0062823.[2]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry Nazarov's boxed stamp, М. И. Назаров. Растения, completed by hand ю.-в. Забайкалья (plants of south-eastern Transbaikalia), with the printed word губернии struck through. Above the stamp he wrote the position, φ 50°50′ λ 114°48′ от Гринв. (latitude 50°50′, longitude 114°48′ from Greenwich), and on it Cannabis ruderalis D. Janisch, the date 31/VII 31, Бурято-Монголия, Агинская степь. По скалам оз. Ножёй, в изобилии. (По-моему, совершенно дико). (Buryat-Mongolia, Aga steppe; on the rocks of Lake Nozhey, in abundance; in my opinion quite wild), and № 14.088., signed as collected and determined by М. Назаров.[3][4] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the date and the label's position for both sheets.[1][2] Nazarov had gathered cannabis on the Syr Darya the year before: Nazarov 13038 (1930).
Specimen and identification
MW0062821 carries five tall, slender stems with narrow leaves and long flowering tops; MW0062823 a much-branched leafy plant and a separate long stem with its roots.[3][4] Nazarov named the plant Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. on both labels; the catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa var. ruderalis (Janisch.) S.Z.Liou. No later determination slip is on either sheet.[1][2]
