Afghan #1 General Population 2019 is a seed accession of cannabis bought in Peshawar, Pakistan, held by the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) as G 33678. Angus donated the seed, and the system received it on 22 August 2023.[1] The donor's note names Sascha Eckstein as the collector and gives the date as May 2019.[1]
Collection Details
According to the donor's note, the seed was bought in the summer of 2019 with the help of regular charas smokers in Peshawar, where several bazaars sell charas made in Pakistan and Afghanistan; the note names Tirah and Logar as places where that charas is made. The men who helped said the seed came from Afghanistan, which the note calls possible. From the look of the seed, the donor judges it most likely to be from the landraces grown for charas in the Hindu Kush, and unlikely to come from the monsoon country of Pakistan's Punjab. The note gives the purposes as dry-sieved charas, bhang and seed for food, and says the seed germinated too poorly to be passed on to other collectors.[1]
