Identifier
The accession identifier is NPG-PAK-KHY-0520190001, built to the grammar in the project's naming reference: holder NPG (the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System), ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month and year of collection, sequence. The sequence counts this holder's accessions with the same country, province and date. The genebank's own number is G 33678.
Sourcing
Everything on this page comes from the GRIN-Global entry, as it stood on 27 October 2026: the passport data, the source history and the donor's narrative. The narrative is the donor's own account of the seed, edited lightly by the curator. GRIN's collector field names Angus on every accession of this donation, including those whose narratives name someone else or nobody, so it is not used here. The entry says the accession was, or was attempted to be, included in the 2024 genome sequencing and phenotyping trial run by the USDA Agricultural Research Service with HudsonAlpha. It also carries the curator's notes and trial measurements from field trials in the United States. The article does not report them: they describe plants grown in those trials, not the population where the seed was gathered.
Two entries with one narrative
GRIN's entries G 33678 and G 33679 carry the same donor narrative, worded alike apart from the curator's formatting: the same collector, date and bazaar purchase. They are separate packets in the donation, and neither entry says how the two lots differ. Each has its own accession here, linked to the other.
Place
The passport gives the origin as North-West Frontier, Pakistan, the old name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province of Peshawar, where the narrative says the seed was bought. The sellers' word that it came from Afghanistan is reported in the article and not entered as the country.
Collection date
The passport gives May 2019 as the date of collection, and the narrative says the seed was bought during the summer of 2019. The identifier and the infobox use May 2019.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The narrative says the seed was bought in the bazaars of Peshawar and that the sellers said it came from Afghanistan; it names no place where the plants grew, and the market where seed was bought is not that place.
