Johaar General Population 2017 is a seed accession of a Himalayan multipurpose cannabis landrace from Kumaon, Uttarakhand, India, held by the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) as G 33716. Angus donated the seed, and the system received it on 22 August 2023.[1] The donor's note says the donor collected it in the winter of 2017 at Munsiyari, in eastern Kumaon on the border with Nepal, on the old trade route between India and Tibet.[1]
Collection Details
According to the note, local farmers described it to the donor as an excellent "three-in-one" line for fibre, seed and hand-rubbed charas. The note gives its purposes as seed for food, fibre for cord or cloth, bhang made from the leaf and seeded flower heads, and charas rubbed by hand. The note says the landraces of Kumaon and western Nepal have large, nourishing seed, much bast fibre and strong, aromatic resin, and that planted close together this one grows as a single tall stem. They grow alongside weedy forms, so some plants may show wild traits. The donor calls it a distinct local crop, with similarities to the line The Real Seed Company has offered as "Kumaoni".[1]
