Kashgar General Population 1914 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Kashgar, in Xinjiang, China, on 4 April 1914 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 37721.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
George Macartney, the British consul general at Kashgar, presented the seed, received on 4 April 1914. The printed inventory lists it as "Kashgar hempseed" and notes that it was requested as the variety from which hashish or bhang is made.[2]
