Sianfu General Population 1914 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Sianfu (today's Xi'an), in Shaanxi, China, on 8 June 1914 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 38466.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
Frank N. Meyer, the department's agricultural explorer, collected the seed; the department received his consignment on 8 June 1914. In the printed inventory this lot is his number 2045a, from Sianfu, 24 January 1914: "A variety of hemp, said to produce very strong fiber. Chinese name Ma tzu, meaning 'hempseed.'"[2]
