Tsinan General Population 1913 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Tsinan (today's Jinan), in Shandong, China, on 14 June 1913 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 35633.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
Frank N. Meyer, the department's agricultural explorer, collected the seed; the department received his consignment on 14 June 1913. In the printed inventory this lot is his number 1833a, Tsinan, 9 April 1913: "A variety of hemp, cultivated around Tsinan, said to produce especially strong fiber. Chinese name San ma."[2]
