Jinan (济南, Tsinan in older English sources) is a historical hemp growing area of Shandong, China, drawn on the city of Jinan south of the Yellow River, less the districts of Laiwu and Gangcheng, which lie in the growing area Tai'an. In April 1913 the plant explorer Frank N. Meyer collected seed of "A variety of hemp, cultivated around Tsinan, said to produce especially strong fiber", which he called by its Chinese name, San ma.[1]
