Ludlow 19635 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected among Artemisia on open banks at Tsalimape, Bhutan, at 7,000 feet on 23 August 1949 by Frank Ludlow, George Sherriff and a third collector the label names only as Hicks. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as E00150669.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The typed label, on blue card, is headed Ex Herbario Musei Britannici and Flora of Bhutan. It gives the locality as Tsalimape, the altitude as 7,000ft. and the date as 23.8.1949. The collectors are printed as F. Ludlow & G. Sherriff, with & Hicks typed above, and the number is 19635.[3] The catalogue names Ludlow and Sherriff and gives the date as 23 August 1949; it has no locality, altitude or habitat.[1] The label's 7,000 feet is about 2,134 metres, and the infobox stores the rounded metric figure.
Habitat and description
The label reads Up to 5ft. Corolla pale yellowish green and Among Artemisia sp. on open banks., plants up to about 1.5 metres with pale yellowish-green flowers, growing among wormwood on open banks.[3]
Specimen and identification
The label's name is typed Cannibis sativa L.; the catalogue determines the sheet as Cannabis sativa L.[3][1] Edinburgh publishes the sheet image under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.[3] The heading Ex Herbario Musei Britannici means from the herbarium of the British Museum. Cooper 1486 (1914) was collected 35 years earlier at Chalimarphé, also at 7,000 feet.
