Koelz 4612 is an accession record for a pressed herbarium specimen of Cannabis sativa collected by Walter Koelz at Baijnath, then recorded in Kangra, Punjab, on 22 May 1933. Baijnath is now in Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh, India.[1][2] The New York Botanical Garden holds the sheet as catalogue 1414434.[3] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 1930577957.[4]
Collection and locality
Koelz's field label is headed Botanical collections in northwestern India and records Baijnath, Kangra, Punjab, an altitude of 3,000 feet, collection number 4612 and the date 22 May 1933.[5] The stated altitude converts to approximately 914 m and is stored in the infobox. Kangra remained part of Punjab until its transfer to Himachal Pradesh in 1966.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet bears an identification of Cannabis sativa L. by E. H. Walker.[5] The sheet carries a handwritten '5 ft.' observation and mounts two fruiting branches.[5] In August 1975, Ernest Small redetermined the specimen as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica (Lam.) E.Small & Cronquist, the name under which GBIF publishes the occurrence.[5][4]
