Koelz 1665 is an accession record for a gathering of Cannabis sativa collected by Walter Koelz beside a road at Keshapur, in the historical Punjab region of India, in March 1931. The New York Botanical Garden holds material from the gathering on two herbarium sheets, catalogue 1414431 and catalogue 1414433. GBIF publishes them as occurrence 1931182892 and occurrence 1930018920.

Collection and locality

Koelz's Roerich Museum field label records Keshapur, a roadside habitat, an altitude of about 1,000 feet and the common name Bhang. The altitude converts to approximately 305 m and is stored in the infobox. The label is headed Flora of Punjab, while the specimen databases place Keshapur in Punjab and one GBIF record adds Kulu to the locality. The exact modern location has not been established, so no present-day state, district or coordinate is asserted.

Field observations

The label describes a three-foot plant with pistillate flowers. Its roadside occurrence directly documents a ruderal plant, supporting the accession's feral classification. That setting does not determine whether the population descended from cultivated plants or represented a longer-established local population.

Specimen and identification

The two sheets share Koelz's number 1665 and the same month, locality and habitat and are treated here as duplicate material from one gathering. In August 1975, Ernest Small determined both as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica (Lam.) E.Small & Cronquist, the name under which GBIF publishes them.

Evidentiary limits

The sheets document a roadside cannabis plant, its sex, common name and approximate elevation. They do not establish a named local variety, cultivation history, population continuity or a living germplasm holding. The record therefore supports a feral classification but not a landrace classification. No conservation priority is assigned.
