Ko Sla is a landrace cannabis appellation in the Kampot growing area, covering Trapeang Phleang commune in Chhuk district, Kampot Province, Cambodia. It is named after Ko Sla, a former Khmer Rouge settlement in the district about 40 km north of Kampot town.[1]

Geography

The appellation is the commune that holds Ko Sla village. Phnom Thlan Muroi, the "100 Python Mountain" of the 2000 raids, lies in Chhuk district, in an area that former Khmer Rouge forces controlled at the time.[2]

Cultivation

In February 2000 officials destroyed cannabis plantations on Phnom Thlan Muroi and in Thlan Muroi, Daskor and Skea communes of Chhuk district: 31 hectares in two raids, tended by 350 to 400 workers.[1] Lin Chhan, a former Khmer Rouge commander, and some 60 soldiers from Ko Sla took part in the first operation. Kampot governor Ly Sou blamed the leader of Ko Sla and said Lin Chhan, by then a deputy commander of Military Region 3, had protected the plantations; Lin Chhan told reporters he was not responsible.[1]

A landrace general population named Kao Sla was collected in the commune on the KHME03 expedition on 15 April 2023. It is a dioecious, short-day monoculture population from the 2023 harvest, planted from July to September and harvested from December to March, and made into ganja for recreation, medicine and food.
