Gubanov 9573 is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered in a littered gully near a frontier post in Erdenetsagaan sum of Sükhbaatar Province, south-eastern Mongolia, on 14 July 1985 by I. A. Gubanov, who determined it as Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. The label records the plant as growing in large numbers. The Moscow University Herbarium holds two sheets of the gathering, MW0175117[1] and MW0175109.[2]
Collection and locality
The first sheet carries the printed form of the БНМАУ ШУА. Ботаникийн хүрээлэнгийн ургамлын сан (Academy of Sciences of the Mongolian People's Republic, Herbarium of the Institute of Botany), with Mongolian field names completed in Russian. It is completed Сухэ-Баторский аймаг, Эрдэнэ-Цаган сум (Sükhbaatar aimag, Erdenetsagaan sum); under Газрын нэр (place name) a frontier post, застава, whose name begins Холтарын and ends Худук; and under Ургах нөхцөл (growing conditions) В замусоренном овражке. В большой численности. (in a littered small gully; in large numbers). It is dated 14.VII.1985 and numbered № 9573.[3] The second sheet carries the Moscow herbarium's own label, Продолжение места №9573 (continuation of site no. 9573), with the same date.[4] The catalogue gives the collector and the date for each sheet, with no number or locality.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
One sheet carries a single stem pulled up with its roots, with palmate leaves and flowers along its length; the other two tall, leafy stems with large palmate leaves.[3][4] Gubanov is named as collector and determiner and both labels give Cannabis ruderalis Janisch.; the catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa L.[3][1] Two days earlier Gubanov had gathered cannabis twice at the sum centre: Gubanov 9616 (1985) and Gubanov 9616a (1985).
