Dobremez 1796 is an accession record for a pressed herbarium specimen of Cannabis sativa collected at Kathmandu, Nepal, on 12 April 1973 by Jean-François Dobremez. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as catalogue E00751460, a single sheet filed under Cannabaceae in herbarium region 5E.[1] GBIF publishes the gathering as preserved specimen occurrence 1229652909.[2] Neither catalogue entry carries a locality, an elevation or a habitat note. Those details survive on the sheet's printed label, which is legible in the herbarium's digitised image.[3]
Collection and locality
The label is a printed Flore du Népal form issued by the botany laboratory of the Université de Grenoble. It gives the place as Lieu : Kathmandu, a latitude of 27°42′, a longitude of 85°19′, an altitude of 1,450 m and the date 12.04.73.[3] GBIF resolves that date as 12 April 1973.[2]
The label's Observations line reads mauvaise herbe dans les jardins, a weed in the gardens.[3]
Specimen and identification
The sheet is determined as Cannabis sativa L., and the label carries the collector's series number DBR NEP N° 1796 against the catalogue's collection number 1796.[3][1] The mounted plant is in flower.[3]
The printed label files the plant in Urticaceae, an older placement for Cannabis that the catalogue entry now replaces with Cannabaceae, so the sheet carries both assignments.[3][1]
