Cheo 224 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa cultivated on a slope of Meng Shan, in Fei Hsien (Fei County), Shandong, China, at 700 m, collected on 27 July 1936 by T. Y. Cheo and L. Yen. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds the sheet as P06884289.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label reads Plants of Shantung Province, China and Collected in co-operation between the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and the University of Nanking. It is completed with Herb, cult. on slope. Fl. greenish yellow; alt. 700 m., Meng Shan, Fei Hsien, By T. Y. Cheo and L. Yen, No. 224 and VII/27/1936. A museum label dates its receipt in Paris to 23 September 1938.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a slender stem with palmate leaves of narrow leaflets and flower clusters along it; the label gives the flowers as greenish yellow.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa Linn., and the catalogue Cannabis sativa L.[2][1] A slip records that a pollen sample was taken from the sheet for Mme Semah (Paris), by M. Malplanche, in March 1985.[2]
