Chao 197 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on 青峯山 (Qingfeng Shan), in Shaanxi (then Shensi), China, in August 1940 by 趙師忭 (Zhao Shibian). The Northwestern Institute of Botany in Yangling holds the sheet as WUK0093034[1].
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a printed form of the herbarium of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Northwest Institute of Agricultural Biology (中國科學院西北農業生物研究所植物標本室), filled in by hand: the collector and number 趙師忭 197, the year and month 1940年8月, with the day blank, and the place 陝西青峯山 (Qingfeng Shan, Shensi). The lines for the habitat, the altitude and the plant's description are blank, and the name Cannabis sativa is written on the line for remarks. A tag tied to the stem repeats the number 197.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Shaanxi.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a leafy top with large palmate leaves of broad, serrate leaflets. A determination slip of the same institute names it Cannabis sativa L., with a stamped signature and a date of 26 March in 1959 or 1969.[2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
