Evidentiary scope
The form gives the place, the month and the collector. It names no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (WUK0093034, 990 × 1,440 pixels).
- Form (printed 中國科學院 / 西北農業生物研究所 / 植物標本室, by hand): 採集人及號數 趙師忭 197 / 1940年8月, the day blank / 產地 陝西青峯山 / 環境, 海拔, 性狀, 體高, 土名, 科名 and 學名 blank / 附記 Cannabis sativa.
- Tag: 197, written sideways.
- Determination slip (printed 中国科學院西北农业生物研究所植物标本室): Cannabis sativa L. / 鑑定人, a red stamp beginning 張, and 19[5/6]9. 3. 26.
- Stamps: the stamped sheet number; 标本已录 (specimen recorded); the round stamp of the herbarium of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Northwest Institute of Biology and Soil (中国科学院 西北生物土壤研究所 植物标本室).
The readings agree on the number, the year and the place, with one marking the month and the character 峯 uncertain. They differ on the collector's third character, read once as 忭 and once, with doubt, as 壯; a third look at the image reads 忭, as does the catalogue. They differ on the slip's date, read as 1959 and as 1969, the third digit being overwritten; neither reads the stamped name after 張.
Georeferencing
No point is given. No mountain called 青峯山 or 青峰山 was found in Shaanxi, in OpenStreetMap, Wikidata or Chinese Wikipedia, whose disambiguation page lists mountains of that name elsewhere, in Shandong and Hubei among them, and none in Shaanxi. The Shaanxi places with the same stem are not mountains: the Qingfeng Gorge forest park (青峰峡) in Taibai County, and villages called 青峰 in Huyi District and in Ankang. The province field takes Shaanxi, from the form's 陝西.
Editorial treatment
Collector. The collector field keeps the form's 趙師忭 (Chao Shih-pien in the romanisation of the time; pinyin Zhao Shibian), and the title takes the surname as Chao. No source on him was found, and the name is not linked.
Date. The form gives the year and the month, August 1940, and no day; 1940-08 is stored. The form is printed for the Chinese Academy of Sciences, founded in 1949, so its entries were written at least nine years after the date they give.
Determination. The determiner's stamped name was not read beyond its first character, and the identified-by field is left empty.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
Source discrepancies
- The Chinese Virtual Herbarium lists the Yangling sheet twice, under two record numbers with the same image (WUK0093034 also as record be210cc7); the page cites the record that carries the sheet's barcode.
