Burtt 3743 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered by B. D. Burtt at Shinyanga, in what is now Shinyanga Region, Tanzania, on 12 April 1932. Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as BR0000014662584; it came from the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The handwritten label is headed Ex Herb. Hort. Bot. Reg. Kew. (from the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew). It reads 3743. Cannabis sativa Linn., Tanganyika: Shinyanga, 3800 ft. (about 1,160 metres), B. D. Burtt and 12. iv. 1932. The sheet is marked Acc. 1933, the year it was taken into the Brussels herbarium.[3] The catalogue gives the same number, place and date.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet holds two stems: one with broad, many-fingered leaves and one with a dense female flowering top.[3] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa Linn., and the catalogue files it as Cannabis sativa L.[2]
