Brichi s.n., Alger is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected by Mustapha Brichi on 29 May 1909 at Algiers, in Algeria. It is filed under the name Cannabis sativa L. var. kif A.DC., which sets it apart from the rest of the Algerian series and its label records the plant on uncultivated ground. The Masaryk University Herbarium at Brno holds the sheet as catalogue BRNU 301895.[1] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 6176582350.[2]
Collection and locality
The catalogue gives the label as Alger, lieux incultes, the date as 29 May 1909 and the collection number as s.n.[1] Its annotations read Herbaier de l'Afrique du nord; duplicatum ex Herbario Universitatis Icosiensis, which places the sheet as a duplicate from the herbarium of the University of Algiers.[1] No habitat or altitude is carried beyond the lieux incultes of the label.
Algiers lies in Algiers Province.[3] The publisher supplies a georeference of 36.76306 north, 3.05056 east with a stated uncertainty of two kilometres.[1][2] The georeference is not asserted in this accession, because it locates the town and not the stand.
Specimen and identification
The sheet is recorded as a herbarium sheet and was determined by Mustapha Brichi, who also collected it.[1] The identification history reads orig.: Cannabis sativa var. kif and the catalogue carries Cannabis sativa L. as the current name alongside the name the sheet is stored under.[1] No image of the sheet is published by either the herbarium or GBIF.
Cannabis sativa var. kif was erected by Alphonse de Candolle in 1869 for the plant cultivated in Algeria under the name Kif or Tekrouri, on the account Isidore Dukerley had given the Société botanique de France three years earlier.[4][5] A sheet by Dukerley himself is Dukerley s.n., Bône (s.d.).
