Si Songkhram 'Tiampon' General Population 2024 is a short-day Lao-Isan landrace cannabis accession originating from multiple villages within the Si Songkhram region of Nakhon Phanom, Isan, Thailand. This domesticated population represents an open-pollinated general population maintained by several traditional farmers, collectively preserving the historical genetic lineage of the Si Songkhram district.

The accession is part of ongoing conservation efforts by Isabella, documenting traditional Lao-Isan landraces that were historically cultivated for Thai-Stick production. Plants exhibit classic sativa morphology with narrow leaves, long internodes, and high resin content. Terpene profiles range from earthy spice and herbal musk to tropical fruit and mango, producing clean, stimulating, and uplifting effects. Seeds were collected at Point of Origin and stored in the Zomia Genetic Library to maintain genetic diversity and protect this threatened landrace.

Geography

The accession grows along the lowland and midland terraces of the Mekong River in Si Songkhram, Isan, Thailand. The region experiences a warm, seasonally dry climate with monsoonal rains supporting tall sativa morphology and a short-day flowering response.

Collection Details

Si Songkhram 'Tiampon' General Population was collected in 2025 by Isabella from Tiampon. Seeds were harvested directly on the farm using traditional open-pollination methods. The population shows minimal introgression and retains classic Lao-Isan landrace traits.

Regional planting occurs from July to September, with harvest between January and March. Cultivation remains active with multiple plants maintained for seed collection.

Botanical Characteristics

The population is characterized by tall, narrow-leaf sativa morphology with long internodal spacing, strong lateral branching, and high resin production. Plants reach 2–3 meters.

- **Tiger Tail (Hang Suea):** Robust, thick colas with strong lateral branching and dense trichomes. Aromas include earthy spice, herbal musk, and woody undertones. Effects are clear-headed, energizing, and ideal for daytime use. - **Squirrel Tail (Hang Krarok):** Elongated, foxtail-like colas with lighter, airier flowers. Aromas are sweet, floral, tropical fruit, and mango. Effects are uplifting, euphoric, and long-lasting, reflecting classic Mekong sativa qualities.

Conservation Status

High conservation priority. The Si Songkhram landrace is critically endangered due to decreasing numbers of traditional farmers and the introgression of modern hybrid genetics. Seeds are maintained in the Zomia Genetic Library to preserve this historic Lao-Isan population for future conservation and research.
