Wang 83330 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on a mountain slope in Mong-tze Hsien (Mengzi), in Yunnan, China, at 1,900 m on 6 October 1939 by C. W. Wang. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds a sheet as PE 00578081[1], and the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences a second as KUN 0169116.[2]
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a typed field slip: C.W.WANG 83330 oct.6, 1939, the place Mong-tze Hsien, Moo-bei., the altitude alt. 1900 m, the habitat Mt. slope and fl green. A tag of the Yunnan collection carries the number in red.[3] The catalogue gives the collector as 王启无, the number, the date, the altitude, the habitat 山坡 (mountain slope) and Yunnan.[1] The Kunming sheet carries a later form of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Kunming Work Station, filled in by hand with the number 83330, the date oct. 6. and a cramped year, a place in cursive characters, the altitude 1900 m, green flowers and the collector 王啓無. Its printed tag, Yunnan Wang & Liu, has a name struck through in red between the two; it is numbered 83330 and dated (1939-40).[4]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a male plant with large palmate leaves and a dense terminal panicle. A slip names it Cannabis sativa Linn., determined by Y. Liu in 1954.[3] The Kunming sheet carries a leafy stem with large palmate leaves and a loose male panicle, and a typed slip, Cannabia sativa L. as typed, determined by H. Chuang and dated 72.9.[4] Wang had gathered cannabis at A-tun-tze, in the north of the province, four years earlier: Wang 69367 (1935).
