Tsiang 11842 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in dense mixed woods on Weipaoshan (Weibao Shan, 巍宝山), in Menghwa (now Weishan County), Yunnan, China, at 2,900 m on 7 September 1933 by Y. Tsiang. The Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing holds three sheets, NAS00290130[1], NAS00290133[2] and NAS00290131[3].
Collection and locality
NAS00290130 carries a Flora of China form of the herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, filled in by hand: the locality Weipaoshan, Menghwa, Yunnan, the altitude 2900 m., the habitat in dense mixed woods, the habit herb, common, greenish white flowers, the collector and number Y. Tsiang No. 11842 and the date Sept. 7. 1933. NAS00290133 carries the same form with the same entries typed. Both carry the museum's Flora of Yunnan label repeating the place, the collector, the number and the date.[4][5] NAS00290131 carries a later label of the Institute of Botany, Academia Sinica, with only the name and a determination of 1966. A stamped tag, Y. TSIANG and No. 11842, is tied to each plant.[6] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Yunnan for all three.[1][2][3]
Specimen and identification
NAS00290130 carries a tall stem with a long branch of small fruiting clusters and large palmate leaves below; NAS00290131 large palmate leaves of narrow, serrate leaflets and a fruiting branch; NAS00290133 a bare stem, folded, with a flowering raceme and a few leaves. The labels name the plant Cannabis sativa Linn.; the 1966 label on NAS00290131 is signed in cursive characters that were not read with confidence.[4][5][6] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
