Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The forms place the plant in dense mixed woods on Weipaoshan, at 2,900 m, in September 1933, and call it common. They give no use. The plant grew outside cultivation. The accession is classified Feral, by inference from the label; the label does not say whether the plants descended from a crop. A single gathering does not establish a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of each sheet (NAS00290130, 995 × 1,440 pixels; NAS00290133, 997 × 1,440 pixels; NAS00290131, 962 × 1,440 pixels).
- NAS00290130, field form (printed 國立中央研究院自然歷史博物館植物標本室 / Herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, China. / 中國植物 FLORA OF CHINA, by hand): Locality Weipaoshan, Menghwa, Yunnan / Altitude 2900 m. / Habitat in dense mixed woods / Habit herb, common / Flower greenish white / Collector Y. Tsiang No. 11842 / Date Sept. 7. 1933. Lower label (EX HERBARIUM OF THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, ACADEMIA SINICA, NANKING, CHINA. FLORA OF YUNNAN, by hand): Cannabis sativa Linn. / Weipaoshan, Menghwa, Yunnan. / Y. Tsiang No. 11842, Sept. 7, 1933 / Det. by blank; pencil Morac. YUNNAN province stamp; red 089226.
- NAS00290133: the same field form typed, with the same entries, and the same lower label by hand. YUNNAN province stamp; red 089225.
- NAS00290131 (printed 國立中央研究院植物研究所標本室 / HERBARIUM OF THE INSTITUTE OF BOTANY, ACADEMIA SINICA): Cannabis sativa Linn. / Locality, Coll. by and Date blank / Det. by 陳[?]守[?]良[?] (cursive) / Date 1966. 9. 14; Mor. YUNNAN province stamp; Nanjing Botanical Garden stamp; red 089272.
- Tag on each sheet (stamped): Y. TSIANG / № 11842.
The two readings agree. One reads the day on the two lower labels as 7 or 2, uncertain; the field forms read 7 in both readings.
Georeferencing
Menghwa is Menghua (蒙化), the name of Weishan County until the 1950s (English Wikipedia; Wikidata Q1152613 carries 蒙化 as an alias), and Weipaoshan is read as Weibao Shan (巍宝山), by sound and because the mountain lies in that county: Chinese Wikipedia places it about 10 km south of the county town, with its highest point at 2,509 m. The point 25.17, 100.36 is the mountain's summit, OpenStreetMap node 10291192401, which Wikidata's item for the mountain (Q30026605, a nature reserve of 2,000 hectares) shares. SRTM gives 2,564 m there, about 340 m below the label's 2,900 m, so the label's altitude cannot be placed on this mountain and does not refine the point. It is a point for the mountain, not the place the plant was gathered. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 4 km.
Editorial treatment
Three sheets, one accession. The sheets share the collector's tag and number; two carry the same place, altitude, habitat and date. The repository and catalogue number are NAS00290130's, the sheet with the hand-written field form.
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's Y. Tsiang. He is Tsiang Ying (蒋英, 1898–1982), as on Tsiang 7431 (1930); the prose links that form.
Elevation. The elevation field stores the forms' 2,900 m, which the Georeferencing note above sets against the mountain's height.
Determination. The 1966 determiner's name, in cursive, was read once as 陳守良 with every character uncertain and not read in the other reading; the identified-by field is left empty.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
