Seulimeum (also Seulimum) is a landrace cannabis growing area in the uplands of Aceh Besar regency, Aceh, Indonesia, within the Northern Sumatra growing region. The kecamatan of Seulimeum lies inland from Banda Aceh at the northern end of the Bukit Barisan range.

Cannabis has been found and destroyed at three of its villages, Desa Pulo, Lampanah and Lambada, in operations between 2023 and 2026, at elevations reported between 227 and 1,300 metres.[1][2][3]

Geography

Desa Pulo lies in the hills of the kecamatan. The October 2023 operation there was reported at 1,300 metres. The September 2025 operation, also at Desa Pulo, was reported at 700 metres, at 5°28′15.1″ N 95°39′18.2″ E.[1][4] The field at Desa Lampanah destroyed in August 2024 was at 227 metres.[2] Desa Lambada lies in the mukim of Lamteuba, where an army unit reported a field in the mountains in September 2026.[3]

In September 2026 the Aceh Besar police walked about five kilometres through hill forest to reach the Desa Pulo field.[5] The army party's route to Desa Lambada that month ran about five kilometres over steep ground and through dense vegetation.[3]

Cultivation

Plant heights at destruction ranged from 20 to 350 centimetres at Desa Pulo in 2023, 30 to 210 centimetres at Lampanah in 2024 and 50 to 150 centimetres at Desa Pulo in 2025.[1][2][4] Planting distances were about 50 centimetres at Desa Pulo in 2023 and again in 2026, and 40 to 60 centimetres at Lampanah in 2024.[1][5][2] The October 2023 operation counted about 15,000 plants on one hectare.[1] The Lambada party in 2026 also seized cooking equipment it suspected the growers had used.[3]

Enforcement

On 2 October 2023 a force of 147 personnel led by the Badan Narkotika Nasional destroyed one hectare at Desa Pulo, about 15,000 plants weighing 7.5 tonnes. The field had been located by unmanned aircraft flown with the national research and innovation agency and the geospatial information agency, followed by ground investigation between 20 and 29 September.[1]

On 15 August 2024 the agency destroyed one hectare at Desa Lampanah, about 5,000 plants weighing one tonne, together with a second hectare at Lamlung in Indrapuri. The agency found no grower or landowner. The fields had been located by unmanned aircraft, followed by investigation on the ground.[2]

On 10 September 2025 the agency returned to Desa Pulo and destroyed 1.3 hectares and about 3,500 plants, with an estimated wet weight of about 1.4 tonnes. Its investigation had run from 31 August to 7 September.[4]

On 29 April 2026 the provincial police destroyed three hectares at Lampanah under Operasi Antik Seulawah 2026. The provincial police chief reported a wider find of about 20 hectares at several points, with an estimated harvest of 50 tonnes. The joint force included the army, local officials and young farmers. The police described the farmers' part as a move from cannabis to coffee, vegetables and other productive crops.[6]

Two operations followed in September 2026. On 15 September 52 personnel of the Aceh Besar police destroyed about 3,500 plants on about one hectare in the hills of Desa Pulo, burning most of them on site.[5] On 17 September the army's regional intelligence detachment reported burning about 3,500 plants on 1.5 hectares in the mountains of Desa Lambada.[3]
