Moliotiko General Population 2020 is a landrace cannabis accession from Molos, in Phthiotis, Greece, listed as Moliotiko in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC describes it as a semidwarf landrace that Greek farmers have grown for decades in Central Greece, and sells seed reproduced from the 2020 stock, which is recorded at 2020 RSC Moliotiko Reproduction.[1] The line is on sale at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Geography
RSC writes that Moliotiko means "from Molos", a town near Lamia in Central Greece, and that one of the strain's main Greek names translates as "Molos Red".[1]
History
RSC holds that, like all Greek cannabis strains since prohibition, Moliotiko has undergone decades of selection of individual plants for use as sinsemilla. It considers the strain likely to descend from the landraces that until the 1930s supplied some of the largest cannabis markets in the world, above all the demand for hashish in the great cities of Egypt, and says that it shows traits similar to those of related strains such as Lebanese and Kalamata Red.[1] It gives Lamiotiko and Sertiko as other names for the strain, and derives Sertiko from the Turkish sert, "heavy" or "strong", a word it says is used of smoked substances such as tobacco and cannabis.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as "Molos, Central Greece (2020)" and describes the seed as coming direct from Greek farmers who grew the strain for decades in Central Greece.[1] The earliest archived version, of May 2022, gave the sourcing as "Central Greece, 2020 Harvest"; Molos first appears in the sourcing line in September 2024.[3][4] The seed RSC sells is reproduced from the 2020 stock.[1]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as charas or hashish (dry-sieved resin) and, latterly, sinsemilla, and writes that at its latitude of origin the strain is sown at the end of March and harvested during October.[1] RSC counts Moliotiko among the lines of its Near East collection that it calls semi-autoflowering, showing a mix of autoflowering and photoperiod traits.[5]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes an early, hardy and compact landrace up to 2 metres tall, with hashy, citrus and diesel aromas.[1] It reports that Moliotiko can show unusual XY monoecious phenotypes, and in August 2024 published a photograph of one such plant.[1][6] The listing describes plants of the reproduction RSC sells.[1]
