Kastamonu Bazaar General Population 1934 is a historical seed accession of Cannabis sativa that the United States Department of Agriculture received from Kastamonu, in northern Turkey, on 11 January 1935 and numbered plant introduction (PI) 109250.[1] No seed of the lot survives. The National Plant Germplasm System, whose database carries the department's introductions, says the accession "no longer exists and can not be requested".[1]
The lot
H. L. Westover and C. R. Enlow of the Bureau of Plant Industry collected seed in Turkey in 1934. In the department's printed inventory this lot is their number T-285, taken from the Kastamonu bazaar on 4 October 1934, and received in Washington on 11 January 1935.[2] The same day they took a second hemp sample at Kastamonu, from the town's agricultural museum (NPG-TUR-KAS-1019340002). Westover returned to the Kastamonu bazaar in October 1936 and bought hemp seed there again (NPG-TUR-KAS-1019360001).[3]
