Liu L2441 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in Hebei (then Hopei), China, on 9 September 1929 by J. C. Liu for the Peking Union Medical College. Its label states that the plant was commonly cultivated for the best kind of rope. The New York Botanical Garden holds the sheet as 01414423.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label is headed Flora of North China and Peking Union Medical College; a handwritten line between the two headings is too faint to read. It gives the number L.2441, the collector J. C. Liu and the date Sept. 9, 1929.[2] The catalogue gives the province as Hopei.[1]
Recorded use
The label reads: Commonly cultivated for making the best kind of rope. 2 m high.[2] The catalogue leaves the note out.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a single stem with a slender flowering spike and a few palmate leaves.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L.; E. Small confirmed the name in August 1975.[2][1]
