Liou 3403 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on river flats near a gorge in Xinjiang (then Sinkiang), China, at 1,600 m on 18 August 1931 by T. N. Liou. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds the sheet as PE 00557998.

Collection and locality

The field label is a printed Flora of China form of the Institute of Botany, National Academy of Peiping, completed in type. It gives the number L. 3403, the date 18/8/1931, the altitude 1600 m. and the collector T.N.Liou. The locality is a stamp in purple Chinese characters, partly blotted: it begins 新疆 (Sinkiang) and ends with a gorge (峽) and the words 附近河灘, near the river flats; the six characters between could not be read. The label of the Herbarium Academiae Nationalis Pekinensis gives the date, Leg. T.N.Liou (3403) and Det. W.Y.Hsia, and no place. The catalogue gives the collector, number, year and Xinjiang.

Specimen and identification

The sheet carries a much-branched leafy plant with its root and clusters of flowers. A determination slip and the herbarium label name it Cannabis sativa Linn., determined by W. Y. Hsia.
