Dhupguri is a landrace cannabis appellation in the Jalpaiguri Dooars growing area of The Dooars, in Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal, India. It covers the Dhupguri community development block, between Maynaguri and Falakata. In February 2026 police destroyed about 70 cannabis plants at Purba Daukimari and Madhya Khattimari.[1]
History
In 1911 Dhupguri was a village on the Jalpaiguri to Alipur road, about halfway between Mainaguri and Falakata, at the centre of a fertile rice-growing tract; much jute was brought to its market for sale.[2]: 147–148 Its police outpost was under the courts at Jalpaiguri, but for revenue its tract belonged to the Falakata tahsil of the Alipur subdivision.[2]: 124 No source read places it in one of the Bhutan duars; it lies between Zumerkote (Maynaguri) and Chamurchi.
Cultivation and enforcement
In February 2026 Dhupguri police, with the officer in charge of the Daukimari outpost, destroyed about 70 fully grown plants on plots at Purba Daukimari and Madhya Khattimari, then raided Kalar Khas in Jhar Alta No. 2 gram panchayat, where they cut and burned more.[1]
