Cooper 3143 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Gichha, Punakha, in Bhutan on 26 May 1914 by R. E. Cooper. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as E00150673.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a printed Flora of Bhutan label filled in by hand. It gives the locality as Gichha Punakha., the date as 26/5/14 and the altitude as 8,000 feet, and its printed foot reads R. E. Cooper, Collector for A. K. Bulley, Esq., Cheshire.[3] The catalogue gives the locality as Bhutan:Gichha Punnakha and the date as 26 May 1914.[1] The label's 8,000 feet is about 2,438 metres, and the infobox stores the rounded metric figure.
Habitat
The remarks line reads Herb 1'-6'-10' on sandy flats: a herb of one to ten feet, about 0.3 to 3 metres, growing on sandy flats.[3] The catalogue gives the description as Herb 1'-6'-10' and the habitat as on sandy soils.[1]
Specimen and identification
The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L., and the catalogue determines it the same way.[1] Edinburgh publishes the sheet image under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.[3] Edinburgh holds four other Bhutanese sheets from Cooper's 1914 collecting: Cooper 1104 (1914), Cooper 1174 (1914), Cooper 1486 (1914) and Cooper 3352 (1914).
