Anderson s.n., Mussoorie is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered at Gracemount, 6,500 feet or about 1,981 m, at Mussoorie in 1914. Mussoorie is in Dehradun District, Uttarakhand, India. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the gathering on two herbarium sheets, catalogue E00248597 and catalogue E00248598.[1][2] GBIF publishes them as occurrence 574884144 and occurrence 574892165.[3][4]
Collection and locality
Both sheets are stamped HERBARIUM of Capt. A. Anderson Presented 1925 and both carry a handwritten label in the same hand.[5][6]
The label on E00248597 reads XCI. Urticaceae, Cannabis sativa, Gracemount 6500' , Mussoorie and Coll. A Anderson. Its date line reads July 1914, with & Sept. inserted above a caret.[5] The label on E00248598 gives the same family, name, place and altitude. It dates the material August 1914.[6]
Neither label gives a collection number, a habitat or a site within Gracemount.[5][6] The catalogue dates E00248597 to 1914 and E00248598 to August 1914. It gives the collector as Anderson, A. with no locality.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
E00248597 holds two plants side by side, marked in pencil Female plant and Male plant with arrows to the stems they name.[5] E00248598 holds a tall fruiting stem marked male plant, with a female symbol pencilled against the shorter plant on the left.[6]
Both labels name the plant Cannabis sativa. Both sheets are filed under the old family heading Urticaceae.[5][6] The catalogue records each as Cannabis sativa L.[1][2]
