Lin Pooh General Population 2024 is a domesticate landrace cannabis accession collected by Éloïse and Isabella of the Zomia Collective in Sakhon Nakhon Province, Thailand.
Geography
Nan Toeng Village is located in Phu Phan District, Sakhon Nakhon Province, Thailand, within the Phu Phan landrace cannabis growing area of the Northeastern Thailand growing region.
The Lin Pooh farm is located on the edge of the Kut Bak plateau within the Phu Phan Mountains and the larger Khorat Plateau.
The region has a warm, dry climate with fertile soils and an average elevation of 200 meters.
Collection Details
This accession was collected and documented by Isabella & Éloïse in December 2024. A total of 1000 of seeds were purchased by Éloïse from Mrs Lin Pooh.
This is a general population accession, the seeds collected from the dried flowers of multiple female plants cultivated by the Lin Pooh family during the 2024 growing season.
The seeds come from an autochthonous, cultivated landrace cannabis population of 1000 plants grown by the Lin Pooh family near Nan Toeng village.
Cultivation Details
The Lin Pooh family cultivates cannabis on a large scale, within a larger context of widespread regional cultivation. Their cultivation of cannabis is currently done under license from the Thai government, following legalisation in 2022.
The plants are cultivated organically in a large field with no intercropping or cover crops. The main source of nutrients is fermented chicken manure added at regular intervals. Beyond cannabis, the family grows diverse crops, including but not limited to rubber, bananas, local vegetables and herbs.
The Lin Poohs heavily cull males and select their plants. Pollen comes primarily from monoecious individuals within the population.
The seeds that the Lin Pooh family grows are sourced through diverse means. Primarily, they plants seeds that they grow themselves on the farm directly into the ground in prepared rows. Since 2022, they have sourced hybrid seeds via informal networks and grown those in a separate plot in certain years.
The plants are grown according to the monsoons, seeking to avoid flowering during periods of excessive humidity. The cycle starts with planting from May to June and harvest occurs between October and February.
Indoors, the plants are estimated to flower within 18-24 weeks.
Botanical Characteristics
The plants are tall, with most plants between two and three meters in height.
In terms of morphology, the plants were exhibiting a natural apical dominance and growing in a classic 'christmas tree' pattern. The leaf shape is narrow, slender and long with up to 9 leaflets or more. Serration is average, shallow if anything.
The plants are light green in color, both stem and leaf. Stigmas were orange, though dried flowers later revealed brown hairs.
The dried flowers from this accession were processed as ganja with whole branches dried and cured before being bagged in plastic and stored. The buds themselves were relatively big, fluffy and thick after processing.
Two primary expressions are present in the population:
- Tiger Tail (Hang Suea): robust structure with thick colas and strong branching.
- Squirrel Tail (Hang Krarok): more delicate, foxtailing colas with sweet, floral, tropical fruit aromas.
Aroma
Tiger Tail phenotypes show earthy and woody notes, while Squirrel Tail phenotypes are more delicate with sweet, tropical fruit aromatics.
Effects
Both of the two primary phenotypes, Squirrel Tail and Tiger Tail produce clean, stimulating psychoactive effects.
Conservation Status
The accession is recorded at high conservation priority due to genetic introgression from modern hybrids, male plant culling, and declining interest among farmers in planting the traditional landraces due to lower prices at the farm gate for landraces over modern hybrids.
