Krabangkham General Population 2023 is a general population domesticate landrace cannabis accession documented by Éloïse in Thailand. Seeds were sourced from Khun Suriyan and his family in Ban Nan Toeng within the Phu Phan Mountains of Sakhon Nakhon Province. The accession represents the broader Lao‑Isan landrace population cultivated using traditional open-pollination practices.
Geography
This accession originates from the Phu Phan Mountains in Sakhon Nakhon Province, located in the Isan region of northeastern Thailand. Ban Nan Toeng sits within a remote mountain valley near the edge of the Kut Bak plateau. The regional environment consists of warm tropical conditions with a pronounced monsoon cycle. Cannabis grown in this area is well adapted to seasonal rainfall patterns and fertile upland soils.
Plants in this population are cultivated at 200 meters elevation.
Collection Details
Seeds representing the general farm population were collected by Éloïse in 2024 from the previous season’s harvest. The seeds originate from plants grown in 2023 by Khun N. Suriyan and his family at Krabangkham Farm.
The population is maintained through direct seeding and traditional open-pollination, allowing the full spectrum of locally adapted phenotypes to persist across generations.
Botanical Characteristics
Plants in this population display narrow leaves and tall, elegant morphology typical of Lao‑Isan landrace cannabis. Mature plants reach approximately 2–3 meters in height with long internodal spacing and strong vertical growth.
Flowering occurs under short-day conditions. Flower Structure within the population varies and may present Dense, Foxtailed, or Airy colas depending on phenotype.
The terpene spectrum across the population ranges from earthy spice and herbal musk to woody undertones and sweet tropical fruit notes, often including mango and light herbal characteristics.
Two major phenotypic expressions are commonly observed:
Tiger Tail (Hang Suea) — robust plants with thicker colas and strong branching structure.
Squirrel Tail (Hang Krarok) — elongated foxtailed flowers with lighter, airier structure and brighter aromatic qualities.
Cultivation Details
Regional Planting: July - September
Regional Harvest: January - March
Height: 2–3 meters
Classification: NLD type Landrace Accession
Plants are grown outdoors using traditional farming practices and direct seeding.
Conservation Status
Seeds from this accession are preserved within the PAU collection and are currently considered viable. The cultivation of cannabis is legally permitted in Thailand, allowing traditional farming practices in parts of Isan to continue.
The Krabangkham population represents an important example of Lao‑Isan landrace cannabis adapted to the ecological conditions of the Phu Phan Mountains.
