Evidentiary scope

The tag gives the expedition, the collector, the year and the number. It names no place, habitat or use. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (PE 00578028, 995 × 1,440 pixels).

  • Tag (printed, completed by hand): Szechuan Exp. / F. T. Wang, 1930. / No. 22369.
  • Determination slip (typed): Cannabis sativa L. / Determinavit (blank); above it a faint pencil Cannabis sativa L.
  • Stamps. SZECHUAN province stamp; Fan Memorial Institute of Biology herbarium stamp; stamped number 41186.

The two readings agree.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The tag names an expedition to Szechuan and no place: the province is the finest place on the sheet. The province field takes Sichuan, from the tag; in 1930 the province also included today's Chongqing.

Editorial treatment

Date. The tag gives the year 1930 and no day, and 1930 is stored.

Collector. The collector field keeps the tag's F. T. Wang. He is Wang Fa-tsuan (汪发缵, 1899–1985): the Harvard botanist index gives the name and dates and PE as his herbarium, and Wikidata gives F.T.Wang as the standard form of 汪发缵. The prose links Wang Fa-tsuan.

Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
