Discussion

Evidentiary scope

Two of the labels describe the plants as wild groeiend (growing wild) in het gras, onder de boomen (in the grass, under the trees) at Pusa. The plants grew outside cultivation. The accession is classified Feral, by inference from the labels; they do not say whether the plants descended from a crop. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from Meise's images (5755 × 8025 pixels; 4876 × 7015 pixels; 4850 × 7011 pixels); the page states only what the two readings agree.

Georeferencing

The point 25.99, 85.67 is the village of Pusa in Samastipur District, Bihar, OpenStreetMap node 6966397790. The labels name Pusa and its Statie (station): the agricultural research institute that the government of India opened at Pusa, Bihar, before it moved to Delhi (English Wikipedia, Indian Agricultural Research Institute). The point places the gathering at the village, not at a spot within the station's grounds. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 3 km.

Editorial treatment

Three sheets, one accession. The three sheets carry the same place, day and collector, two of them in Vermoesen's own printed herbarium label; they are treated as one gathering of male and female plants. The infobox takes BR0000023200180's values and gives all three catalogue numbers.

Collector. The labels give Dr Kam. Vermoesen; Meise's catalogue gives Vermoesen F.M.C., and the collector field follows it. Wikidata (Q5742024) has a Belgian botanist and mycologist, (François Marie) Camille Vermoesen (1882–1922); the match rests on the initials only, and the page does not name him. Meise's other sheets of the same collector place him at Coimbatore in February 1910 and at Pusa from June to November 1911.

Classification. The labels name the station as the place and say the plants grew wild there, in grass under trees. That is the collector's record of plants growing outside cultivation, not of plants grown at the station.

Source discrepancies

  • GBIF files BR0000023200180 under Malaysia (country code MY); the label's Pusa is in India. The page follows the label, as Meise's catalogue does for the other two sheets, which give no country code.
  • The Louvain label gives the collector's title Dr; no source read confirms the degree.
