Identifier

The accession identifier is RSC-PAK-GIL-0120220002, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Province segment GIL is for Gilgit-Baltistan, as on RSC-PAK-GIL-0120220001.
  • Year 2022 is the harvest in the sourcing line. The month digits are 01 because no month is given.
  • Sequence 0002. RSC-PAK-GIL-0120220001 (Hopar Valley) already holds 0001 for this province segment and year.

Sourcing

The RSC listing for Yasin Valley as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its nine versions in the Wayback Machine from April 2024 to June 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and RSC's post of 6 May 2025. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).

Lots at this listing

All nine archived versions give the 2022 Landrace Genetics sourcing, and none speaks of a reproduction, so one collection has been on sale. The photographs of plants at 40° N show the accession grown outside Pakistan; they are on this page because the listing sells the collected seed itself.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace, sourcing type Point of Origin, autochtonous Yes: the listing describes a landrace collected in the Yasin Valley.
  • Collector. Angus, as on the other accessions whose sourcing line reads "Landrace Genetics".
  • Purpose. Charas, culinary seed and bhang are entered as Recreation, Food, as on RSC-PAK-GIL-0120220001, with processing Dry-sift.
  • Hierarchy. Growing region Hindu Kush, from the listing; no growing area, because the wiki has no page for one in the valley. Locality Yasin Valley, the place the listing names. No district is entered: the listing names none.
  • Seed viability. Viable, from the listing's germination test of summer 2025.
  • Height is left empty: RSC gives up to about 2 metres, and its versions of April and July 2024 1 to 4 metres.
  • Related accession. RSC-PAK-KHY-0120190001, RSC's Chitrali, which the listing names as similar.
  • Conventions. Photoperiod Short-day and introgression Minimal follow the other RSC accessions; the listing states neither.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The listing names the Yasin Valley and no village, and the wiki has no page for the valley. The finest place named is the valley, larger than any village in it, and the OpenStreetMap look-ups found no boundary for it or for a Yasin tehsil, so its extent and middle are unresolved; they found only the village of Yasin Proper (node 4013851494), which the listing does not name, the Yasin River (relation 19277858) and Gupis-Yasin District (relation 16603530), a district larger than the valley.

Source discrepancies

  • Height. RSC: "Up to approx. 2 meters". RSC in April and July 2024: "1 – 4 meters".
  • Viability. RSC: "showing 100% viability". Kwik Seeds: "showing high viability".
  • Classification. RSC in April 2024 classed the line as "C. sativa subsp. indica var. afghanica"; the listing no longer does.

Photographs

The infobox image and the gallery image are from the RSC listing, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution. The infobox image is one of four photographs of plants beside a measuring pole, on the listing since September 2024 with the statement "Plant photos show individuals from this accession at 40° N in mid-July"; the caption follows those words. The seed photograph has been on the listing since its earliest archived version, of April 2024. The person holding the pole is not identified and is out of frame above the shoulders.
