Discussion
Identifier
The accession identifier is RSC-IND-HIM-0120210002, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Province segment
HIMis for Himachal Pradesh, as on RSC-IND-HIM-0120210001. - Year 2021 is the harvest in the sourcing line. The month digits are
01because no month is given. - Sequence 0002. RSC-IND-HIM-0120210001 (Malana Cream) already holds 0001 for this province segment and year.
Sourcing
The RSC listing for Rasoli as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 19 versions in the Wayback Machine from August 2020 to May 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; RSC's posts of 8 April 2021 and 17 February 2025; and the GRIN-Global entry for G 33755. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).
Lots at this listing
The listing's address has carried two lots under the title Rasoli, with almost the same description throughout.
- "The Real Seed Company, Rasol, Indian Himalaya, 2019 Harvest", August 2020 to January 2023 (nine versions).
- "The Real Seed Company, Rasol, Indian Himalaya, 2021 Harvest", from June 2023 (ten versions).
This page is the 2021 lot. The 2019 lot is not documented on the wiki yet. RSC gave Rasoli seed away with orders in May 2020 and in April and May 2021, before the 2021 harvest, so that seed was of the earlier lot; its post of April 2021 reported about 80 per cent viability.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace, sourcing type
Point of Origin, autochtonousYes: the listing describes seed direct from the village. - Hierarchy. Western Himalayas, Parvati Valley and Kullu District, the hierarchy of the wiki's Rasol page; locality
Rasol, the village the listing names. No appellation is entered: the listing names the village, not the fields of the Rasol appellation. - Purpose. Charas, fibre and seeds are entered as
Multipurpose, with processingCharas. - Introgression is left empty. The other RSC accessions carry
Minimalby convention, but this listing itself warns of hybrid seed in the region. - Collector.
Angus, as on the other accessions whose sourcing line reads "The Real Seed Company". - Related accession. RSC-IND-HIM-0120210001, RSC's Malana Cream of the same year, from the village whose farmers RSC says share fields with Rasol's.
- Seed viability is left empty: no test of this lot is reported.
- Photoperiod
Short-dayfollows the other RSC accessions; the listing does not state it.
Georeferencing
The point 32.03, 77.29 is the village of Rasol, OpenStreetMap node 9235540486, in Bhuntar tehsil, Kullu District. It agrees with the point of the wiki's Rasol page, 32.0316, 77.2921, to within a few metres, and SRTM gives 2,284 m there. It places the seed at the village the listing names, not at a field within it. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 3 km.
Source discrepancies
- Sourcing. RSC: "Rasol, Indian Himalaya, 2021 Harvest". Kwik Seeds: "Rasol, Indian Himalaya, Winter 2021".
- Height. RSC: "2 – 6 metres outdoors". Kwik Seeds: "Over 4 metres outdoors".
- Genetics line. RSC: "'Rasoli' Charas Domesticate". Kwik Seeds: "Rasoli Himalayan Resin Cultigen".
- Classification. RSC until June 2023 gave a classification line, "C. sativa subsp. afghanica var. indica x C. sativa subsp. indica var. himalayensis x C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica"; the listing no longer carries it.
Photographs
The infobox image is the listing's only photograph, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution. It carries no caption. It first appears in the version of October 2024, while the 2021 lot was on sale; before that the listing showed a photograph of seed, which the Kwik Seeds listing still shows. The caption describes what the picture shows. The person behind the plants is not identified.
USDA genebank accession
The U.S. National Plant Germplasm System holds Rasoli seed as G 33755 (GRIN-Global entry), received on 22 August 2023 in a donation from Angus. The infobox lists it as the same lot as this accession:
- the entry is named Rasoli and dated collected before 2023 in India, and the donor describes it as a Himalayan multipurpose landrace;
- the listing sold the 2021 lot from June 2023, before the donation, and after it; the 2019 lot's last archived version is of January 2023.
The entry gives no harvest year, so the match rests on those dates. It carries notes from the unit's 2024 field trial in New York; the article does not report them.
