Discussion
Identifier
The accession identifier is RSC-AFG-JOW-0120180001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Province segment
JOWis for Jowzjan Province, which the sourcing line names, as on KHA-AFG-JOW-0120180001. - Year 2018 is the harvest in the sourcing line. The month digits are
01because no month is given. - Sequence 0001. It is the only RSC accession for this province segment.
Sourcing
The RSC listing for Sheberghan as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 23 versions in the Wayback Machine from August 2019 to April 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and the GRIN-Global entry for G 33757. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).
Lots at this listing
All 23 archived versions are titled Sheberghan and give the 2018 sourcing, so one collection has been on sale. The versions from August 2019 to August 2023 (14) sell it without comment; from October 2023 (nine) the listing says the seed is "stock from an ex-situ maintenance grow using open pollination (August 2023)". The collection and the reproduction are kept as separate accessions: this page and RSC-AFG-JOW-0120180001-R1.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace, sourcing type
Point of Origin, autochtonousYes: the listing describes seed obtained from charas farmers at the source. - Collector.
Angus, as on the other accessions whose sourcing line reads "Landrace Genetics". - Lot.
sold, from the versions of 2019 to 2023, which sell this seed before the maintenance grow. - Processing. "Charas (sieved resin)" is entered as
Dry-sift. - Traits. The aromas and the harvest months are the listing's. Leaf shape is left empty: "broad- to medium-width leaflets" spans two values. Height is left empty because the listing's figure has changed over the years (below).
- Growing region.
Northern Afghanistan, from the listing. No growing area is entered: the wiki has no page for one round Sheberghan. - Related accession. KHA-AFG-JOW-0120180001, Khalifa Genetics' Sheberghan Hash Plant, which that company says Landrace Genetics collected near Sheberghan in 2018. The sources do not say whether the two are one lot.
- Conventions. Photoperiod
Short-dayand introgressionMinimalfollow the other RSC accessions; the listing states neither.
Georeferencing
The point 36.6650, 65.7520 is the one the donor gave for this line on the USDA genebank entry G 33757, used as published. It lies 0.25 km from OpenStreetMap's node for the city of Sheberghan (node 312595265), inside Shibirghan district (relation 6575362), at 360 m by SRTM, so it marks the city rather than a farm; the donor's note says the seed was collected "near Sheberghan", and the listing names no village. OpenStreetMap gave no outline for the city itself in the look-ups made. The uncertainty covers the city and the farmland close to it. Basis: holder's georeference. Uncertainty: about 10 km.
Source discrepancies
- Height. RSC: "Approx. 2 metres". Kwik Seeds and RSC in 2019: "Up to 3 metres".
- Harvest. RSC: "October"; Kwik Seeds and RSC until June 2023: "October to November".
- Obtained. RSC since September 2024: "directly from skilled charas farmers through an Afghan charas smuggler". Kwik Seeds and RSC before: "directly from skilled charas farmers".
- Genetics line. RSC: "North Afghan Cannabis Landrace". Kwik Seeds: "North Afghan Domesticate ("Landrace")". RSC in August 2019: "Pure Northern Afghan Landrace".
Photographs
None. The listing's photographs first appear in October 2023 and September 2024, after the maintenance grow, and are on RSC-AFG-JOW-0120180001-R1.
