Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The label records cannabis as frequent on roadsides and in fields at Baharak in September 1965. The roadside habitat directly documents a ruderal occurrence and supports the Feral classification; in Feldern (in fields) may mean weeds in fields or a crop, and the label does not say which. It names no use, variety or local name. Podlech's own determination, Cannabis ruderalis, is a taxonomic opinion about the plant and is reported, not adopted. No conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read from the Edinburgh image (E00405502, 2510 × 4096 pixels).

D. PODLECH Nr. 12731.
  • Vienna revision slip HERB. MUSEI HIST. NATUR. VINDOB. / Det./Rev. für „Flora Iranica" / Est! / 197 with 7 added by hand / K. H. Rechinger (Det. struck), at the lower left, with, by hand in blue, Cannabis sativa L. subsp. indica (Lam.) Small + Cronquist.
  • Edinburgh receipt stamp ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN EDINBURGH with 135/76 and a sheet count written in: not a field datum.

Georeferencing

The coordinate is Baharak, the district seat (Wikidata Q4842442, 37.0028, 70.9075), stored as 37.00, 70.91. The label places the gathering at Baharak, at the district office (bei der Alakadarie), which is a settlement-level place. The label gives no altitude to test the point against; the SRTM 30-metre elevation at the point is 1,557 metres.

Editorial treatment

The scientific name field takes Rechinger's 1977 redetermination, the latest on the sheet. The Munich label's Cannabis ruderalis and the catalogue's Cannabis sativa L. are both reported in the article.

The sequenced Munich sheet (MSB 64645) is another sheet of the same gathering, not this one. The infobox puts the BioSample under the relation Other sheet of this gathering: the tissue is the Munich sheet's, not this sheet's, and the article reports it in its Sequenced duplicate section.

Source discrepancies

  • Name. Munich label: Cannabis ruderalis Janiszewski. Vienna slip (1977): subsp. indica. Catalogue: Cannabis sativa L.

Source citations remain in the article. Éloise 04:15, 5 October 2026 (+07)

Sequence data

The infobox lists BioSample SAMEA112688125 (Munich sheet MSB 64645) under the relation Other sheet of this gathering. The tissue came from another sheet of the same gathering, not from the Edinburgh sheet, and the relation says so. Each sample names Podlech's number and date:

  • BioSample SAMEA112688125: voucher MSB<DEU>:64645, collector D Podlech, collector_number 12731, date 1965-09-25.
