This news item was first dated 20 June 2026 and filed under that date. 20 June is the date of an ANI interview in which Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi spoke about the decision after it was taken: Negi "said the state Cabinet had taken an 'important and visionary decision'" (ANI via Webindia123, 20 June 2026). The cabinet meeting itself was on Saturday 6 June 2026. Amar Ujala's report of that day's cabinet decisions, published on 6 June at 18:08 IST, says the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu "शनिवार को हुई" ("was held on Saturday") and that the cabinet approved the amendment to the Himachal Pradesh NDPS Rules 1989 (Amar Ujala, 6 June 2026). Later reports carry the approval without a day: ETV Bharat on 8 June and LawStreet Journal on 9 June. The stored event date is now 6 June 2026 and the page has moved to that date's title; the old title redirects here.

The summary first had Negi saying that industrial hemp would be grown for fibre and seed. The ANI interview has him say that "industrial hemp can be used to produce fibre for textiles, clothing and various cosmetic products" and does not mention seed. The fibre-and-seed wording is LawStreet's, which writes of the government "shifting the focus to industrial fibre, seeds, and horticultural applications"; the summary now gives it to LawStreet. The opium comparison is Negi's: "Similar to licensed opium cultivation in states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, medicinal cannabis production will be undertaken through a regulated system for pharmaceutical purposes" (ANI).
