Discussion

Four reports of this case are recorded in this one news item. It follows Eleven Media (8 October 2020) for the source link and the summary. The others are:

  • Bangkok Post (5 October 2020), on the 136 kg found at the bridge;
  • Nation TV (6 October 2020), on the press conference;
  • Bangkok Post (7 October 2020), on the two arrests.

Quantities

The Bangkok Post of 5 October gives "a total of 136 one-kilogramme slabs of compressed marijuana" at the bridge. Nation TV reports a second seizure at a shop in Mae Sot subdistrict, "14 กล่องน้ำหนัก 216 กิโลกรัม" (14 boxes weighing 216 kg), and a total of "รวม 360 กิโลกรัม" (360 kg in all). Eleven Media and the Bangkok Post of 7 October give a total of 360 kg. The two reported seizures come to 352 kg. Nation TV's value of "12 ล้านบาท" (12 million baht) is left out of the summary.

Attribution

Where the cannabis came from is in two reports. Eleven Media: "At the press conference it was mentioned that the 360kg of marijuana was from northeastern Thailand." Nation TV quotes the Tak police commander as saying the police know the suspect behind the shipment, who is "อยู่ที่ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ" (in the North-East). The Bangkok Post of 5 October says the driver picked up the boxes in Tha Sai Luat subdistrict for delivery in Myawaddy and gives no origin. The summary attributes the origin to the press conference, following Eleven Media.
