Quantities
United Press International gives the field as "an 80-acre field of marijuana". The stored area, 32.4 hectares, is that figure converted. The estimate of "10,000 to 12,000 marijuana stalks" is a range, so no plant count is stored.
Source discrepancies
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement described the same spraying in a letter of 12 October 1982 printed with the transcript of a Senate hearing (Cultivation of Marihuana in National Forests, hearing of 30 September 1982, Internet Archive copy). The two accounts differ on the scale of the operation.
| Detail | United Press International, 28 August 1982 | FDLE letter, 12 October 1982 |
|---|---|---|
| The field | "An 80-acre field of marijuana" | "a large marijuana field in Red Bay, Florida" |
| The herbicide | "the 500-gallon spray truck" | "The one quart of paraquat used in this remote field" |
| Timing | "The two-hour spraying job" | "commenced on August 28, 1982 at 10:07 am. (CST) and took approximately two hours to complete" |
