Page scope
Nakhon Phanom Province treats Nakhon Phanom as a province of Thailand: its Mekong border and rivers as they bear on the crop, its peoples, the police and intelligence reports of the 1970s and 1980s, licensed growing and cannabis products after 2019, and the seizures of cannabis smuggled across the Mekong from Laos since 2013, district by district. The region as a whole is treated at Northeastern Thailand and the product and its export trade at Thai stick.

Sources
- Shared with Northeastern Thailand and Thai stick. The JPRS translations of 1977, Stamler and colleagues (1985), the State Department report of 1986, Maguire and Ritter (2013), Kraisittipanit and colleagues (2025), Charoenchai and colleagues (2023), The Nation (2025), Thai PBS (February 2019) and the Food and Drug Administration notice page are cited with the same definitions and pinpoints as on those pages, where the copy each is cited from is set out.
- Area and population. The page cites no official area or population figure for the province, and the infobox leaves both fields empty. The provincial statistical report of the National Statistical Office gives both for Sakon Nakhon; no equivalent report for Nakhon Phanom is cited.
- Districts. The list of 12 districts is the list of district offices of the provincial agricultural extension office.
- Seizure reports. The Bangkok Post reports of 2013 to 2023 are in English. The online copy of the report of 26 September 2022 prints its later paragraphs in reversed character order; they are cited with the order restored. Matichon, MGR Online, Sanook, Thairath, Naewna, Krungthep Turakij and Thai PBS are in Thai; translations of their wording are the page's own.
- Peoples. Kidkhamsuan and colleagues (2024) and Pha-in (2016) are cited from their abstracts, Chareerak and Wongpinunwatana (2023) from the full text.
- GBIF. The occurrence index, as it stood on 12 October 2026, holds one record of the genus Cannabis in Nakhon Phanom: an iNaturalist observation with no locality.
Where the sources disagree
- The length of the Mekong border. About 153 km (Krungthep Turakij, June 2022) or 174 km (Thai PBS, May 2019). The page gives neither.
- The first licensed grower. MGR Online (2021) names the Ban Lao subdistrict health-promoting hospital in Si Songkhram as the first licence holder in the province; Yothin Chaithongyot (Naewna, 2022) calls his Renu Nakhon network, permitted on 17 May 2019, the only enterprise in the province to have obtained a proper licence; the Na Kham enterprise (Bangkok Post, 2022) dates its own start to 2020 and claims no precedence. The page gives the first two as each source's statement.
- How many community enterprises. "Almost 100" without legal cover (Naewna, September 2022) against "more than 400" growing cannabis three or four years before 2026 (Thai PBS, 2026). The figures count different things and both are on the page, attributed.
- Seizure totals. The periods overlap: 6 tonnes from 1 October 2018 to 31 May 2019 (The Nation), more than 4 tonnes in the first five months of 2019 (Thai PBS, from police data), "almost five tonnes" from January to 1 May 2019 (Bangkok Post) and "nearly 5 tonnes" in the three months to January 2019 (Sanook). The page gives the first two.
- The 350 kg case of January 2019 is reported by the Bangkok Post and Sanook with the same suspect and quantity. Sanook also counts cannabis in "million pills", a figure evidently meant for methamphetamine, which is not used.
- The navy commander's name is printed "Somat" and "Sombat" in the same Bangkok Post report of January 2022.
- The stored values. The accessions ZOM-THA-PHU-0420240006, ZOM-THA-PHU-0420240007 and ZOM-THA-PHU-0420240008 store the province Nakhon Phanom with the district Si Songkhram District and the growing area Phu Phan. ZOM-THA-NKP-0420240009, ZOM-THA-NKP-0420240010 and ZOM-THA-NKP-0420240011 store the district Si Songkhram District with the locality Muang Nakhon Phanom.
Other reports
- Suwanwela and Poshyachinda (1986) place widespread cultivation "especially in the north-eastern part of Thailand" and do not name the province; they are cited on Northeastern Thailand.
- The prehistoric textile finds from Ban Don Tan (Aranyanak 1991, on Northeastern Thailand) are fibres without a dated context and are not tied to cannabis growing in the province.
- Thai PBS (May 2019) expected "not less than 15 tonnes" to be smuggled through the province that year without naming who made the estimate.
