Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 44370 (Inventory No. 50 (1922), p. 63) and the entry for PI 44370 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the farm, the sender and the channel, and compares the seed with other Keijo strains after one trial. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-KOR-SEO-0019170001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 44370.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • KOR is the ISO code for Korea.
  • SEO stands for Seoul.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1917 is the year the department received the lot.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The seed came from a government model farm, so the accession is classified Other. Neither source says where the farm's stock came from.

Collectors and donors

GRIN-Global lists Nagashima, Government Industrial Model Farm and Dewey, L.H. among its sources; the printed inventory says the seed was presented by Nagashima through Dewey. No one is said to have gathered it, so the infobox gives no collector.

Location and georeferencing

Keijo is the Japanese-era name of Seoul. The farm is not located within the city, so the coordinate is the point OpenStreetMap gives for Seoul (relation 2297418), 37.57, 126.98. It marks the city the source names, not the farm. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 15 km, the radius of today's city plus 1 km for the two-decimal form.

Dates

The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 31 March 1917 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt.

Trial

The comparison with "other so-called Keijo strains" and the yield remark refer to a trial in the United States after the seed arrived, not to the plants in Korea.
