Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 87522 (Inventory No. 103 (1932), p. 23) and the entry for PI 87522 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the station and the sender, and describes the seed as several varieties improved by selection. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-JPN-MIY-0019300001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 87522.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • JPN is the ISO code for Japan.
  • MIY stands for Miyazaki Prefecture.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1930 is the year the department received the lot.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The seed came from an experiment station, as several varieties improved by selection there, so the accession is classified Other and its type is Selection. Neither source names the varieties or the crops they were selected from.

Collectors and donors

GRIN-Global lists Oshiumi, F., Agricultural Experiment Station among its sources; the printed inventory says the seed was presented by him. No one is said to have gathered it, so the infobox gives no collector.

Location and georeferencing

The station's Kawa-Minami branch is in today's town of Kawaminami, Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture. The coordinate is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the town (relation 3991121), 32.19, 131.53; the branch is not located within it. It marks the station the source names, not a field. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 7 km, the town's extent (about 90 km²) plus 1 km for the two-decimal form.

Dates

The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 5 May 1930 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt.
