Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 44206 (Inventory No. 50 (1922), pp. 41–42) and the entry for PI 44206 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date, the place, a glossed Chinese name and a note on where the crop does best. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-CHN-HEB-1119160001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 44206.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.CHNis the ISO code for China.HEBstands for Hebei.- Month
11: November, the month the seed was gathered. - Year 1916 is the year the seed was gathered.
0001is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
Meyer's note names a local variety of the place and describes the ground it is grown on, so the accession is classified Landrace.
Collectors and donors
The inventory heads the consignment "Collected by Mr. Frank N. Meyer", and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.
Name
GRIN-Global gives the local name as Shang ma. The printed name is unclear on the scan, so no local name is entered; the inventory's gloss, "thread hemp", is in the text.
Location and georeferencing
The inventory names Malanyu and nothing finer. The point 40.19, 117.69 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the town of Malanyu, Zunhua (node 8439864713), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 5 km, the town's extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form.
Dates
The collection date, 25 November 1916, is the date of Meyer's number as both sources give it. The department received the consignment on 9 February 1917, the lot's received date.
